Night at Krungthep and Rama III bridge

Bangkok, about a week ago. I had passed these bridges almost every day for two weeks and wanted to take pictures of the people fishing from Krungthep bridge. There were only a little handfull of fishermen there that night though, and I walked across to a small park on the Bangkok side where I found some really nice scenes.

Mountain color explotions

When I set out on a half day trip to Meekknoken (751 m.s.l) last weekend, I had my mind set on documenting the colors that you normally don’t notice when walking in the mountains on the mid-west coast of Norway. The stunning landscape and combinations of blue skies and water, gray mountains and the green vegetation is enough to keep your mind distracted and eyes zoomed out for days. The most common reason for looking down is when you’re so tired from walking uphill that you have to focus all your energy on walking, and even then you don’t really look. But there is another good reason for looking down, that might even provide an energizing motivation to keep walking; If you start paying attention to the green and gray ground, as you trek along, you will be rewarded by small color explosions that happen right at your feet. Oslo Ess at Hulen

I took this picture with my cellphone earlier in April. Nice concert indeed it was, and after treating the original picture with Photoshop for Android it turned out quite nice. I like how the concave line of the solid mountain ceiling helps draw a shape reminiscent of an Egyptian eye. The concert venue is a former bomb shelter cave beneath Nygårdshøyden, the hill where the University of Bergen has spread out most of its campus.

Birdview on Kristiansund

My home town, in HD from a remote controlled mini-plane (via Brunsvika). The view of the town is absolutely magnificent at about 2:00. It’s amazing what you can do with a flying machine and a mini camera these days, and I think we can expect to see even more mind blowing stuff as the equipment and pilots become even better. Førpremiere på “En dråpe luksus?”

I kveld hadde Studentersamfunnet i Bergen førpremiere på dokumentaren “En dråpe luksus?” av Per Christian Magnus og Robert Reinlund. Jeg hadde selv ansvaret for å ta bilder for Studentersamfunnet denne kvelden. I dokumentaren går Terje Tvedt og Magnus til angrep på luksusflaskevannprodusenten Voss. De dokumenterer hvordan Voss villeder kundene til å tro at vannet på deres flasker er eksklusivt brevann, mens det egentlig er vann fra et tjern på Sørlandet som deles med en hel kommune. Hvor vidt kommunens innbyggere har luksusvann i springen, eller Voss har springvann i luksusflasker er dermed et åpent spørsmål…

Videre taes Voss Foundations “corporate social responsibility-arbeid” i Afrika opp. Sistnevnte ble i hovedsak temaet på debatten som ble arrangert etter førpremieren, hvor Knut Brundtland, lederen i Voss Foundation også var med. Det skal han ha “kredd” for, for i dokumentaren levnes ikke Brundtland noe som overhodet kan ligne på “kredd”.

Det ble en skikkelig opphetet debatt, spesielt sammenlignet med de mer nyanserte og rolige debattene Studentersamfunnet i Bergen vanligvis er arena for. “En dråpe luksus?” peker på noen kritikkverdige forhold i driften av Voss og Voss Foundation. Det er i og for seg på sin plass. Det jeg ikke klarer å svelge med dokumentaren er derimot måten kritikken og de kritiserte fremstilles på. Knut Brundtland drites ut etter alle kunstens regler. Slik blir det når to forskjellige, fler-timer lange intervju kryssklippes ned til en brøkdel. Det er ikke nødvendig og heller ikke fortjent, selv om Voss Foundation absolutt bør bli sett på med et kritisk blikk.

Et av problemene med å drite ut folk på den måten dokumentaren gjør, er at at det flytter hele debatten til et fullstendig uinteressant nivå. Selvfølgelig vil de fornærmede kjempe imot idiotstemplet de påføres. Tiden de bruker på å argumentere mot overspissformulerte anklager fra dokumentaren kunne heller brukes på en ordentlig konstruktiv debatt. Selvsagt vil dokumentaren få mer oppmerksomhet slik den er laget, men målet helliger ikke midlet.

Introduction to peace

Every now and then, when I’m tired after a long day I need some calming music. That is when I put on Intro by The XX. At least these days. It’s melancholic, dreamy and groovy at the same time. But it’s too short. 2:07 minutes is not enough to get in the calm mood. Then I found a version on Youtube that is 6:54 minutes long. Now we’re getting somewhere. But I need more.
